Crisis theory is a unified field theory concerning crisis energy, a theoretical fundamental force that some scholars, such as Isaac Dan der Grimnebulin, believe to underpin all other forms of energy, such as potential energy. Crisis theory is sometimes believed to be in opposition to possibility theory.

Overview[]

Scholars of crisis theory believe that crisis energy an intrinsic property of existence. Objects, by simply existing, are in a state of contradiction which in turn generates large reserves of crisis energy. By drawing crisis energy from an object, it can be made to enter ever-greater states of crisis, thereby creating a larger pool of energy to draw from.

Events of Perdido Street Station[]

During the events of Perdido Street Station in the summer of 1779, Isaac succeeds in creating a crisis engine that harnesses and channels the power of crisis energy through complex calculations.
